Learning Lung Sounds CD-ROM

Cat. No.: 717-9148 Price: $49.00

Normal lung sounds Pleural rub Tracheal Stridor
Bronchial Wheezes Fine crackles Asthma
Coarse crackles Pneumonia Squawks COPD
Rhonchi Bronchiectasis Interstitial fibrosis

This CD-ROM presents over 200 normal and abnormal lungs sounds in a case study method.  The sounds are visualized while listening.  A comprehensive quiz is included.

The author is Raymond L.H. Murphy, Jr., M.D., Professor of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Pulmonary Department at Faulkner and Lemuel Shattuck Hospitals, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.  Dr. Murphy is a founder and past president of the International Lung Sounds Society.  The co-author is M.A. Murphy, Ph.D., RNCS, ANP, Associate Professor of Nursing, Boston College Schools of Nursing, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, USA.

Learning Arrhythmia Recognition CD-ROM

Cat. No.: 717-9010    Price: $115.00

This program is available for any Windows platform. It contains 30 arrhythmias. Each arrhythmia can be played as a moving strip. The demonstration mode shows the arrhythmia moving on a standard ECG grid with the explanation of the arrhythmia shown below the strip. This provides basic instruction about the characteristics of each arrhythmia. The pacemaker site, rhythm, rate, P waves, P-R interval, QRS complex, clinical significance and treatment are all described.

The comparison mode permits any two arrhythmias to be shown on the screen simultaneously. For example, if the user wishes to compare the difference between Second degree AV block, type I and type II, both arrhythmias can be seen on the screen simultaneously. The descriptions are still shown so that a complete explanation of each is available.

The quiz mode gives the user a quiz with up to 10 multiple-choice answers. The quiz is a very nice learning tool. If the student quizzes himself or herself and an incorrect answer is selected, by a simple keystroke, the incorrect answer is compared with the correct one so the student can see the difference. The student enters his name. The date is automatically controlled by the computer. The student may quiz himself or herself on any portion of the arrhythmia teaching system that has been studied or the entire program if he or she chooses.

Learning Cardiology CD ROM

Cat. No.: 717-9146  Price: $99.00

A tutorial is provided so that each point in the ECG trace can be coordinated with the electrical pathways of the heart.

This CD-ROM covers coronary artery disease with emphasis on cineangiography and valvular heart disease with emphasis on echocardiography.

This CD-ROM contains a complete description of one of the most common cardiovascular disorders in the US - Coronary Artery Disease.  There are numerous examples of cath lab views from actual patient showing narrowed and occluded coronary arteries.  There is a complete clinical discussion and rationale for the diagnosis.

The second part of this CD-ROM covers Valvular Heart Disease - mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation, aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation.  The user can review the electrocardiogram, a series of echocardiograms, cath lab data and results, heart sounds, and chest X-Rays.

The authors are Sherman M. Steinzeig, M.D., FACC, Marvin I. Dunn, M.D., FACC, David Wilson, M.D., FACC from the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, and Tseng Kuo Shiao, M.D. from the department of Information Technology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Learning Cardiac Auscultation
CD-ROM

Cat. No.: 717-9147    Price: $115.00

The use of a stethoscope is basic to every physician, nurse and allied health professional. Learning heart sounds is a difficult and time-consuming task. This CD-ROM simplifies the learning experience.  By following the sequence of the sounds on the menu, the student will be guided through a step-by-step learning process.

Many of the sounds have the ability to be displayed as mild, moderate and severe examples.

List of Heart Sounds

Normal heart sounds Hypertropic cardiomyopathy Physiological splitting of S2 with respiration Mitral regurgitation
Paradoxical splitting of S2 with respiration Mitral stenosis Third heart sound Mitral stenosis & regurg.
Fourth heart sound Mitral valve prolapse Summation sound Tricuspid regurgitation
Congestive heart failure Atrial septal defect Ejection sounds Ventricular septal defect
Atrial fibrillation Patent ductus arteriosus Aortic regurgitation Pulmonary hypertension
Valvular aortic stenosis Congenital aortic stenosis Aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation  Innocent systolic murmurs

Features:

  • All heart sound programs have a moving Phonocardiogram (PCG) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) trace to show the location of the sound(s) in the cardiac cycle
  • Sound components are identified with labels
  • Labels can be turned ON or OFF
  • Amplitude of individual sound component(s) is adjustable to create faint or loud events
  • Any two heart sound programs are easily compared with a mouse click
  • Text explains each heart sound program with emphasis on Physical Diagnosis
  • Complete Tutorial shows first-time users how to use the heart sound programs
  • A step-by-step learning process - following the List of Heart Sounds takes the student through the normal and abnormal heart sounds found in today's clinical practice

Learning Electrocardiography CD-ROM

Cat. No.: 717-9136     Price: $99.00

This CD-ROM contains over 118 clinical EKGs in 9 clinical categories. The tracings are standard 12 lead versions with zoom enlargements of critical areas. In some cases, orthogonal XYZ leads are also included. A detailed interpretation is presented which includes the criteria and the rationale for the diagnosis.

This new version contains an EKG tutorial, a Student Assessment, a section on vectrocardiography and the ability to ZOOM or expand any lead in any EKG for greater detail. This new upgrade is a significant improvement.

The tracings are hyperlinked with 10 discussion topics which include: the specialized conduction system, A-V block, bundle branch block, chamber enlargement, loop rotation, the EKG in CVA, electrolytes, myocardial infraction, tachycardia, and ventricular pre-excitation. This CD-ROM will operate on Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98 or Windows NT.
